Why can’t you just do those things because you’re a good and honourable person who’s preconceptions have been challenged and dismantled through the last 20-ish episodes?

Nnn this is where someone calls me unromantic generally but I can’t help it this makes me so uncomfortable. T___T

Huh. I always thought of this stuff as commentary about her relationship with André + class. I realize that this is an interpretation but I think that she’s saying: André and I are equals. I will do this because we’re equals. I never really even considered  that she was saying that her wibbly feelings for André are her only motivation. 

It’s really important to me to remember that class has been a huge issue in their relationship and that for them to be together she has to get off her high horses, just a little bit. Her constant referal to ‘my husband’ is not so much about romance as it is about showing André and also the men, who are supposed to follow her in battle, that she wants to be their equal. 

Hmm, ok, that is a good interpretation actually. I can definitely see it. The husband/wife language gives me a knee-jerk reaction of massive uncomfortableness (yeah that is def a word), but putting that aside, I like this reading! It makes a lot of sense.

I agree with both of you, basically! I am still super-uncomfortable with some aspects of Oscar and André’s relationship, though if I look at it analytically I get where they’re trying to go with it — all the intersections of different ways that they’re not equal and the effect it has and how hard it is to overcome all of that. In the end though my visceral reaction to episode 28 kind of tends to overrule analysis here, I think. BUT it is still super-interesting. BUT one has been through some not entirely dissimilar things and therefore has… problems with it anyway.
